"One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain." – Bob Marley
2 shows in 2 cities: Calgary & Edmonton. Each show 2 hours in duration. Dates September 2010.
A minimum of 2000 youth ages 14 - 18 will attend each show free of charge.
Students from schools across Alberta will be invited. Our long term relationships with school districts and community support organizations will be activated to make this happen.
The goal of these sessions is to shift the mindsets of participants from seeing the world as a difficult place to survive, into empowerment. To know that they are not alone in their struggles and to recognize the many supports and programs available to them.
Participants will have an understanding of what Resiliency is and walk away with 4 tools to make them more resilient. Because we speak their language (through music and story) the lessons will stick!
The Rock'N Resiliency Project takes Troy Payne's already powerful in-school program and cranks it up a notch! It will combine Troy's passionate storytelling with heart-thumping live music. Using Troy's most requested conference keynote; The Irrepressible Journey, adding a youth band and a set list of 12 songs will create a concert experience and life changing message to 4000 youth! A musician himself, Troy will be collaborating with the high school 'rock' band 'Aside from Sorrow' to deliver 6 top-40 alternative, rock and punk songs that depict the pains and pressures of adolescent life. These will be performed during the first half of Troy's storytelling of The Irrepressible Journey exploring the adversities youth are faced with. During the second half of the program Troy will ask the questions; 'Why do some people who live a life full of adversity grow up to me contributing members of their community, live 'healthy', 'normal' lives while other people who experience the same amounts of adversity continue the cycles of abuse and addictions and are never able to break free of the chains that hold them down?' The answer is Resiliency and Troy will equip the participants with 4 tools to help them overcome adversity breaking the cycles, identifying and connecting with supports, identifying the world you live in and forgiveness. These are the tools that Troy used in his own life. And they are the tools he used in counseling youth. In-between the story telling, Troy and the band will perform an additional 6 songs full of hope and a love for life. It will create a powerful and transformational experience!
